According to Dr. Wendy Schultz, Library 4.0, is "knowledge spa: meditation, relaxation, immersion in a luxury of ideas and thought...Library 4.0 revives the old image of a country house library, and renovates it: from a retreat, a sanctuary, a pampered experience with information—subtle thoughts, fine words, exquisite brandy, smooth coffee, aromatic cigar, smell of leather, rustle of pages—to the dream economy’s library, the LIBRARY: a WiFREE space, a retreat from technohustle, with comfortable chairs, quiet, good light, coffee and single malt. You know, the library."
I couldn't have constructed the future of the library any better than this. Thank you, Wendy Schultz. Finally we have an image that resonates with a blend of intellectual stimulation and creature comfort. My only hope is that this future library combines the physicality of the book along with the immediacy of the wireless world.
And Library 2.0? Its already changed the way I view my student's world and the way I will teach. New blog for this semester, complete with RSS feeds and links and hopefully with student commentary. And who knows, maybe a wiki for the courses in the near future.
